Are You A Procrastinator?
Are You Lazy?
Is There Really a Difference?
By K.Jenkins
Procrastination is integrally linked to disorganization. It's not practical to assume that all disorganization/procrastination problems are of the same cause, but for purposes of this article, we will integrally link procrastination to disorganization.
Disorganization is a
habit, from which procrastination is sometimes borne.
Procrastination is a
habitual delay in starting a task or seeing it through to conclusion.
On one hand, this particular habit (procrastination) can be quite harmless -- as some people
thrive on the stress of putting things off until deadline, the deadline approaches, they kick into high gear, and the task gets done! No harm, no foul...Does that sound familiar?
That's the "Active Procrastinator". These active procrastinators are often heard saying, "
I work well under pressure!"
On the other hand, procrastination can be a serious problem if it throws the important matters in your life out of whack -- as some people
sink from the stress of being disorganized, (i.e. paying the bill isn't the problem, finding the bill is!) and the dread of having to first search and/or organize, causes further delay, the deadline approaches, passes -- things don't get done or they get done late...Does that sound familiar?
That's the "Passive Procrastinator".
These passive procrastinators are often heard saying, "
I've been busy, I just didn't have time!"
Active Procrastinators are usually successful:
- They "get away" with being that way.
- They save themselves!
- They get to master a behavior that becomes an exhausting, vicious circle.
Passive Procrastinators usually fail in key areas of life:
- They usually have bad credit --yet, have the money.
- They receive poor grades --yet, have the intellect.
- They exhibit poor job performance --yet, have the ability.
Still with me?...Good!
Laziness is defined as being adverse or disinclined to work; sluggish or slow moving.
Laziness is
not an emotion (which is a state of being)
Laziness is
not an activity (which is a state of doing)
Laziness is
not an inbuilt personality trait (such as kind or loving)
It is not confined to just a few or a certain type of persons. Anyone can become its victim.
Laziness is actually a
judgment, a
negative judgment about a state of not doing.
That judgment is borne from a
mindset. Without a change in mindset, outlook or vision, laziness becomes self-sabotaging and sinful.
Okay, so now what?
It is natural to sometimes be disorganized, to procrastinate and occasionally be lazy; partly because
a greater force is required to start change than to maintain the status quo.
If you've been able to identify with any of these behaviors, know that
that greater force necessary for change is in YOU, no one can give it to you, you already possess it! Tapping into it is key!
Explore your options for change. The approach, technique or program you choose is up to you. With proper help and consistent practice, anyone can overcome undesirable mindsets and/or behaviors.
